Durability & Stain Resistance A surprising characteristic of our rugs (and one that makes them good candidates for family use) is that they are naturally quite stain resistant. There are several different reasons for this. First, they are knotted with a very high quality, lanolin-rich wool. This means that, once dyed, the lanolin acts as a natural barrier for the dyes; holding them in and protecting them. In addition, the dyeing process is long and extensive, so the wool is fully saturated by the dyes and there isn't "room" to absorb more color from coffee, tea, juice, etc. Finally, as part of the finishing process each rug is washed twice with soap and water and once with a bleach-water solution. This rinses out any excess dye so that the carpet will not run, even if it does get wet. If something should spill on a rug, simply wash the spot with mild soap (such as dish soap or mild shampoo) and water. In addition to their uncanny stain-resistance, our oriental rugs also boast an impressive life-expectancy and will last for many generations.
